Well it is the Caliphate after all, the Ottoman Empire, ancient Egypt, Macedonian/Greek empire and oddly enough the Mughal Empire all are influences in their appearance, culture, and style. Not entirely to be attributed to them, but merely bits from here and there.
The knife is modeled after the WW1 issue US Marine Corp's trench knife though, that thing was wicked looking.
