In my furry origin story, I came up with the concept that furries were created artificially, and are like a blank template onto which any species' characteristics can be inputted. They carry the species information from whatever's been in their ancestry. So, like, a skunk and a kangaroo could yiff and have either a skunk or a kangaroo, since 'furry' is like one massively diverse species. Kinda like Pokemon. Plus, the same couple could also give birth to a mouse, a flamingo or a gecko, if one of those was in their family history.

Yeah, I actually wrote a short thesis on the genetics and hereditary rules of the Donut Kitty universe back in 2002. I still abide by it. A skunk X kangaroo could produce: A. Skunkaroo B. Skunk C. Kangaroo D. Any combination of what's come before in either family line, but with much less chance of occuring

Ah, nifty! So two parents having a kid of a totally different species would be approximately the same odds of any other trait with a recessive gene.

I was planning to write up all of my ideas on furry genetics here, but I'll save them for later :P
