The term is odd, but I can think of a plausible explanation. Well, as plausible as a girl swimming in lava for relaxation. If water and sand can form a substance which drastically changes viscosity depending on speed — quicksand, probably so can molten rock and particles of higher-melting minerals.
By the way, how heavy is she? Since she's so heat-resistant, she's probably made of something other than normal flesh and blood. Something heavier — with higher density? That'll make it easier to sink.
