I'm a bit behind on my mythology. What's the reason Cupid is always depicted in a diaper?

I'm not sure myself. I mean, in really old paintings cherubs are depicted nude. I can only guess the addition of a diaper is a modern concept for preserving modesty? I dunno.

Those are Renaissance re-imaginings of cherubs equating them with putti, which were changed due to the unsightly concept of an "actual" cherub. In angelology, a cherub has 4 heads and 4 wings, and Satan is even referred to as a cherub. You're absolutely right about the modesty thing though. Cupid was oft depicted as a child in art and so must have been covered up to preserve children's "innocence." So they went with a cutesy undergarment instead.
