Fox is retarded. They did it to Sliders, and any number of shows that suffer continuity errors because they air them out of the intended order.
Like Sliders, season 3, fox aired an action episode first because they thought it'd get more ratings rather than the true first episode which explains why they are in LA instead of San Francisco.
Firefly, they wanted an action episode first, which is why The Train Job exists. They thought Serenity was too slow.

SEE??? Sliders was one of my favorite shows. I was so mad when I found out they were ending it on a cliffhanger after it ended on season 3. Then they got picked up on scifi for two years and did another cliffhanger. :P
*sigh* Sliders... I loved it when it started. Then they changed what the Kromaggs were, Sabrina Lloyd and Kari Wuhrer got into constant arguments, John Rhys-Davies left, and then when Quinn left it just.. eh. Season 5 had some decent episodes, but overall I felt like Sliders just decreased in quality until it went eh.
Still love the concept though. :) I loved the timer. :) Always wanted to try it. ;)
