Dad brought this home from work the other day. I took off the plastic cover so you can see the insides. The bottom half that is still covered is a huge heat sink. Guess what it is!

No, then the large capacitors wouldn't make any sense, nor would all the small connections on the uppermost board...

Yes, your first comment was correct, it is a variable speed AC motor drive. It doesn't work anymore but I can have a little fun with the parts on it

Sadly, yes. Luckily I didn't step on a sharp part, but it was still painful. I've also been able to use one as a cheese grater as well. Don't worry, I didn't eat that cheese. Too much lead...
