Lemme explain this one:
I haven't figured out how I'm gonna establish this yet, but the military in this setting has polarized into groups and species. In otherwords, Avians, dragons, gryphons, ect... are geneticly predispositioned to be pilots- while Wolves, cats, ect... are ground-troops and scouts.
Of course Dragons tend to be happy to pilot anything with heavy weapons, and Gryphons are naturals at transformable mech combat...
So bacicly I-he-my avatar... ( >.< whatever) Isn't SUPPOSED to be a pilot- much less a good one. Wolves are also supposed to be most effective in packs, but.... Let's just say, that didn't work out for me...
Plus, at this time the VF-1 "Verotech" has been replaced by the VA-6 "Alpha." Hmph, just cause it has a bigger missle payload... <.<
...now how do I start explaining why
blacknblue is a 40ft tall zentradi?

Macross Frontier beat me to it AGAIN!! I realy finnished drawing Female Zentron powered suit, but was gonna post it in the next comic! XP
Even if they DID a better job- Is my brain on the same wavelength as some japanese nerd out there? I'm gettin creeped out, man...
Still, if you wanna skip the action, near the end is a great example on how Zentradi armor and micronization works! I didn't know they had the technology to adapt their size so often.

Really? Just thinking that dragons are generally pretty powerfull, you know?
I know there's a danger in makeing generalizations- but by making them, one can bring the problem to light. Making Dragons giants has worked pretty well so far...
What skills do you think a dragon would bring to mech combat?

(disclaimer: personal opinion follows. YMMV.)
I've always thought of dragons as having a lot of diversity among them. There are big honkin' powerful "tank"-type dragons, sure, but those are by no means the only ones.
Take your stereotypical western-style dragon. Fairly large, sure, but those wings aren't just for show. Dragons are aerial hunters, which means a talent for flight (both high- and low-speed) and aerobatics, excellent eyesight, and probably pretty good hearing. Yeah, there's the fire-breathing, but unless you're in a universe with magic (in which case *everything* goes out the window), he's gonna have a limited supply of that, so he's gonna save it for when he really needs it, preferring to use his claws and teeth to capture prey.
So, combine the major points of eagles, falcons, and big cats; and the willingness to readily play a trump card (and the preference to always have one available; if possible), and what do you get?

Micronization is all purpose!
And fun for practical jokes, but You Didn't Hear That From Me.
Sounds like you're giving yourself a bit of a challenge with the full background, since explaining complex details can be a bit time consuming when you're working in graphic format. At least if you're not intending to pack the entire page full of iiiitty bitty text.
Good luck. :)
As for what particular species like/are good at, go with your own setup! If you try to gather opinions on it you'll find 37,000 variations amongst the fans of any given critter. "Wolves would be best! No, dragons! Nawr, chickens." Never trust the theories of a fan. :)
Also, Alphas are for girls! *Sneer*
Don't mind me. Yeeears and years ago when the original Macross tabletop Role Playing Game came out, the system was still undergoing some tweaks. We all piled on the game and, while rolling up characters, the dice fell where they may. I ended up with "Jojo the dog faced boy" as he affectionately became known. He was dumb as a stump, sickly, ugly, gullible, and quite annoying.
And the single best pilot who ever lived.
If the gm hadn't seen me roll the stats and skills he would have made me start over, but as it was things turned out pretty entertaining. Typically the games revolved around Jojo causing the team endless amounts of difficulty outside of the ships "What's this button do?" "Jojo... give me the handgun.... You know we don't want you to have an accident...." until they could stuff him into his Beta, point him at someone, and let him do hooorrible things to them.
I miss that game, even if it did introduce the abomination of MDC.
