
This one is awesome.
This is a specimen of Ulexite, the "TV Stone," and because its crystalline structure occurs in fibrous bundles rather like that of fiber-optic cables, you can actually see completely through it!
It dissolves away in hot water, though, because it's sodium-based.
It's also got Borax in it! Borax is an incredibly rare mineral (10 ppm of the Earth's Crust), and Ulexite is formed when Borate rocks leach out and drain into salt lakes that're evaporated away to leave only the minerals behind. California's a great place to find these, but I don't know where this particular specimen was found.
