line sketch with lots of scribbles, paint layer behind with the mid tones, highlight and shade ontop of the lineart with a wide marker brush with medium opacity

Well you sure did a beautiful job! For some reason, despite it being a freaking tree, I never pictured the character with all the twisty bark detail - but I'm gonna draw it exactly like this one from now on. :D You are super good at tree-bark, by the way.
