These packages are pretty basic, they are as their name implies my maps and personal toiletries. the maps are going to be of your own personal area, hence why I have one of them upside down. Just to five myself a little bit of privacy lol.
Maps of the Area, I carry 2 maps because one of them is of greater scale than the other giving more detail of a specific area while the other is a more general map for my use. You don't want to over do it with maps and I dislike GPS systems because you need batteries and the like I will usually carry one but it will not be in my go to pack as it will be in storage for a long time and I don;t want to find out that my map doesn't work because the battery went dead forever ago.
Journal and Pen, This is another attempt to keep boredom at bay, the ability to put down your thoughts, leave a message, heck even doodle is huge! I will probably add a pencil to this as well but haven;t found one I like just yet.
Compass, this one should be obvious, a high quality compass the knowledge how to use it can save your life, it also has a mirror inside which i can use for signaling if need be. Good to have in any case and a must if you have maps in your pack.
Personal Hygiene Supplies, simple really is is both a mental and physical health thing, taking the time to make it so you don;t smell and feel like death can be a huge moral booster if your lost in the woods. It's also a good idea to keep yourself up to help prevent infections and keep tooth decay at bay especially if your going to be out there a while.
That's the end of this pack, will probably do a Mod 1 later on when i have more things I would like to have in the pack, but this is good for now. Very happy with it and any tweaks will be slight. I will be doing a similar couple pics with my EDC in it, the stuff I carry around with me every day just to give you guys an idea of what might come in handy. Please no one should take my pack as a one to one blueprint for yours, everyone's skill set is different, different people will need different things, think about where you are and what your going into before you just grab a bag and head off into the middle of no where. Be safe please everyone

Need to get around to making myself some form of get home bag.
So, couple points I had through reading all your pics.
Moras are awesome. They really are. For the price, they are extremely hard to beat.
I would maybe look into some kind of thin piece of metal to tether to your ferro rod so that you 1) don't need to use your knife 2) could leave that with one person, while another uses the knife for something (if you happen to be stuck with someone else)(although multiple knives are good, you never know.) Just a thought.
Someone mentioned the P38 can openers on the other pic. I would say try to find some of the P51's. Tad bit larger, and easier to use because of this. (maybe one of these could double as the ferro rod striker?)
For your 'journal' setup: A pencil is always good, but also maybe look into a Rite in the Rain pad, and a Fisher space pen (or some other pressurized pen). After seeing the rite in the rains at SHOT, and playing with one myself, I'm quite sold. These are cool. And with the pressurized pen (or pencil) you can write on them after they are wet, where a normal pen will die out and not work.
Also, a small 1st aid/trauma kit is never a bad idea.

I always carry a knife on my person i I already have something to strike even if i have loaned out my knife to. Also I kinda am a nazi when it comes to survival gear when i am going out with folks into the woods. So yea that is covered and in a Good situation I will either be with people who like me have made good kits or I will be in my truck which again has quite a lot of back up stuff in it.
Can openers... I have one on my leather man which is part of my EDC so am covered for emergencies, but again I carry a full sized on in the truck where the bag is so yea lol, I am only in trouble if I can;t get to my truck lol.
I have looked at the Rite in the Rain books and will be honest, If I am in a situation where I am getting wet while I am writing then I have done something wrong and should be working on my shelter not writing lol. But that is just me and I can;t justify the cost in my mind. Though I am going to work in a pencil and sharpener, maybe even an eraser.
I keep a full Trauma kit in my truck, and I am building another for my car rack, so that is taken care of. If I am gonna go hiking I will grab it out of the truck and if I am Gooding I will go to my truck anyway because that is where the bag will be.

Yeah. I have a hard time leaving the house to do anything without a knife. And there's usually a knife or two laying around in each room.
Ah ok. That works too then. I rather prefer the multitool/swiss army styled openers. Much easier to use than the p38/51's. The others are just nice because they are like 10 cents each so you can have a million of them stashed everywhere.
Understood. Just might not be a bad idea for if you accidentally drop something in snow/water/whatever or need to leave a note out, it won't 'melt' in the rain or whatever. They are a tad expensive though. I give you that.
And sounds good.

yea knives are nice to have around the place lol, i will be posting more of my EDC stuff here soon. just gotta get my head around how I want to do it.
I see your point about accidental dropping, but again If I'm writing that means I don't have time for something else. *chuckle* I see my "Moral boosters" as things to be used when I am sitting by the fire with something cooking on it or as I'm eating a ration lol. But if i ever get some money to blow then I will probably do as you suggest, it can;t hurt to have good gear in the bag.
