I'm waaaay over thinking this... but I'm in detective mode!
So if he was born in 1984, and we assume most adults start having kids in their early twenties (and assuming he or his father are not the youngest child from a large(ish) family), that would mean his grandfather would have been too young for WWII, but just old enough for the Korean War!
Although in this graph, http://www.furaffinity.net/view/11602159/ shows no relations, so I assume he doesn't have a lot brothers. And I again assume his grandfather didn't have a lot of kids, because he wouldn't have favoured just one of them with his precious war-time mementos. So my money, Korean War! :D

Who's to say it follows 100% with real-life conflicts as well, but I think about that time frame would be right. I'm sure some of my characters have siblings that are behind the scenes and don't show up in the art I do. Beatou might have brothers and/or sisters too, but they're just in the background.
