Natural Zircon from Rutherford County, NC!
Although individually each piece is not much bigger than a millimeter across, put together like this in the display case with a foam backing it looks really spiffy, doesn't it? :D
Rutherford County, by the way, is about an hour south of me, and is also a very productive location to go panning for gold. I haven't met him myself, but members of the gem and mineral club I'm in are friends with a man who quit his job in the 70's to start panning full-time.
Since then, he's found enough shininess to send his daughter to Duke University FULLY PAID. :3
