Depending on the light, it shimmers with a pale purple, but eyes can be tricked and I believe that this is actually Smoky Quartz, not Amethyst.
I got this piece from a stall at the Grassy Creek Gem Festival in Spruce Pine, NC. It was in the vendor's bargain bin and although he didn't have info on the locality for three bucks I couldn't resist. :3

it could be an amethyst. amethyst are basically quartz with iron impurities. has the same crystal habit and structure as Quartz (since both are the same). Had to look it up a bit, but amethyst can go down to a very light pinkish-purple (but can also be reddish or blueish). so you just might have one :) i can readily see the purple in there.
