The reason that Lyra has a full tummy. She eats well and loves every minute of it!! Picture taken the last week in April when she was about 2-3 weeks.

YAY - another soft soul out there. It is a lot of work but so worth it - I totally agree. How did you come to be the Kitten Caretaker? Total kudos to you for doing it!! Lyra is about 4ish weeks now. I need to get new pictures if she will stay still for them *LOL*. She is eating like a piggie and burping like a sailor nailing beers on shoreleave. I wish you the best of luck!!!! Do you have any pics of the little one?
No pictures yet but I will have some up here soon hopefully.
I am lucky that I work at a vet clinic or else I would never have got this chance. A client dropped her off saying she was abandoned so we have been taking care of her. Everyone at work has been passing her around, but once she was in my hands there was no letting go. I have been taking care of her only for a week now but I'm looking forward to more. And Lyra sounds like a lot of fun.

She's doing great! She's pretty much already weaned but I'm still feeding her milk once a day because I still think she's too young not to have any. :3 Her personality is really starting to show and she's a fur ball of energy. Its a lot of fun. Pudge loves trying to pounce and "kill" my hand. And then she'll run backwards and spazz out like she scared herself. XD Funny thing is that she hurts me more when trying to bottle feed her then when we are playing. And a little tip for weening. During the day leave the dry food mixed with a little bit of water in a bowl and leave it there all day. If she gets hungry she will eat it. When I was doing this I made sure to feed her plenty of milk in the morning and at night so if she didn't eat as much as she should have then she was now full from the milk. But for all I know you could already be doing this. XD
YAY YAY!!!!!! Lyra is weaned totally and is approximately 24 ounces. I know she loves the occassional bottle, even just a little bit, and I give in with a smile. I know what you mean about the shredding of the hands when the kitten gets all frustrated for some strange reason. I usually just set the bottle on the counter and do something else for a few minutes and it seems to calm her down. Lyra is also a good girl for using the litter box. We had one accident which was our fault, not hers.
I went the route of canned kitten food when we first started weaning Lyra. She eats the dry food now, but we will be giving her some of both until she is older.
A fur ball of energy, huh?? Sounds about right. Add in the very loud purring and the pouncing and we would have identical kittens. I find it sooooo cute when Lyra is eating and playing and playing and MORE playing and then, like a switch is flipped, WHOMP - she is down for the count - so very sound asleep. I can't help but get a chuckle or three at all times when I'm watching her!
Keep me up-to-date please please!! I find myself wonderful how Pudge and you are doing!!!!!

How did you know about paddypaws?????? Growing is all she is doing - besides eating, sleeping, playing and bodily functions.
Great idea on the card. Our first weight on her was 5.5 ounces and this mornings was 17.2 ounces. I'm just stunned at the rate of growth. No wonder she sleeps so much!!!

that's impressive, she's over tripled in weight then, that's a really good sign :3
I know about them cause a friend of mine put a term to it, I already had my cat try and suckle on my neck and she'd paw at my chest, or when the other lays on your lap and shoves his paws out at you. Heh, it's a fun game, kinda like the one I'd play as a kid, it's called "Nose." It's really simple, you touch someone elses nose saying "Nose nose nose!" over and over till they get pissed off and hit you.

It was :P later I invented "Gecko" which involves waiting for a random time then making an animal sound and asking "Hear that? it was a GECKO!" and then shoving the person. Best played at the swimming pool :P
Awwr she sounds adorable, I haven't played with a tiny mitten in ages, when I stop being a student and get myself a real job (veterinary nurse fingers crossed) I'll be able to get my own house and the pets I want.

Thanks, I hope to get that one day. A big husky or german shephard, some cats raised from kittens, a ferret or two, that'd be it, nothing I'd keep constantly in a cage, I disagree with the ethic.
You're more than welcome to play them :P in fact if you go to a swimming pool with Nekogami and play Gecko with him let me know XP it'd be fun to see the WTF! look on his face XD Oh? I reckon you'd be a plenty match for me in Nose and Gecko, the gauntlet is thrown!

*wicked laughter* *tries to catch the gaunlet and falls on my face* Give me some time to heal up and review the rules, then LOOK OUT!!!! If I played Gecko with Gami without him knowing...I have no clue what would happen after. Right now I'm sitting on the couch giggling just thinking about it!!!! *giggles* Our parrots are outside of their cages more than they are inside EXCEPT for the sun conure that has no want to come out. Furrball loves his cag and makes that quite clear to anyone standing around it...very loudly!
I'm very confident that you will become what you want and are wiling to work for! The vet world is always in need of wonderful people with huge hearts! *big big smile* Plus the critters definitely need more advocates to show them that they are loved and adored!

again, let me know if you play it with him cause it should be funny :P heal up? awwr, get well soon kitten :3 Never owned birds or known anyone who did so my only experience of them has been zoos and pet shops :p though I do hear they can be very noisy. One of my favourite jokes in literature was in the pratchett book monstrous regiment where a girl understood what birdsong meant. it really took the poetry out of it since she just heard the birds yelling "MY TREE! MY TREE! FUCK OFF! MY TREE!" and "SHAG ME! I'm big and hot and good to mate with, shag meeeeeeeee!" oddly enough I did study birdsong experiments with one of my tutors, it was quite fascinating, mean but fascinating to see what social conditions change the development of birdsong in chics.
Thanks for the kind words :3 I'd be happy to get as far as nurse, or even RSPCA officer or something. Word of advice if you know anyone who is a human nurse, go to australia, they are crying out for nurses and doctors, giving them houses, high wages, the lot.

I'd like to go some time too :3 so what's the chance of getting an IM address off ya? :P best use that than fill this window up with this one chat :P
I've heard they can be super noisy, I once had to watch a Staffordshire Bull terrier (okay it's a dog not a bird but wait for it) that was really noisy but in a strange way. Those things make the wierdest noises, here in liverpool out across the back alley there's a pup terrier that makes noises which make me think of some kind of yappy dog being shoved up a chimps orrifice.

He earned that name, I can tell you! He had quite the voice and when it was feeding time in his mind there was no way he could be ignored XD We've had quite a few talkers come through the shelter (I took two of them home, myself) and he really was one of the greats alongside Pixie in terms of volume, though she still had him beat by quite a bit. I am proud to say as his foster father that he was adopted by a lovely family and last we heard was doing wonderfully.
Imagine if you will sitting in a room with about 45-50 cats wandering around and doing their thing with a chorus 150+ strong of dogs in the background. Are you there? Good, because now imagine hearing a very loud yowling meow coming from a room about two yards down the hall. That was Pixie just speaking at her normal volume! She was adopted too ^.=.^

YAY for the adoptions and major cheers go to you for fostering!!!!!!!!!!!!!
None of our cats have been really loud. Actually some have been very quiet. We have had pure blood Maine Coons which are known for not meowing but making weird weird sounds. Lyra can be very vocal and loud when she thinks it is feeding time. I do try to tell her that I'm the one wearing the watch but she still insists that I'm wrong and she is always correct! *hehe*
Keep doing all the good you are doing!!!!!! I don't think I can foster for a couple of reasons - the first one is that I would never let them go. I get attached very quickly and with all my heart. The second main reason is that we already have a full house of animals - one rottie, two mini weenies, 2 1/4 cats (Lyra is the 1/4) and three parrots (a Sun Conure, a Moluccan Cockatoo and an African Grey). The cockatoo is about 22 years old, the grey is about 11 and the conure is about 12. They are all mature male birds and think they rule the roost here! The house is full to the brim but I've always respected and admired the people that can foster with really great results!! Society is indebted to you!
