Commission - Warm and Coldfire
A commission piece for
Vangarthia of his phoenix character Coldfire. I still have problems with doing feathers and avian things, but apparently he was really happy with how it turned out, so I feel a bit better ;P

Whoa... another incredible piece! Okay... so to get the obvious out of the way first; those feet! Wonderfully detailed soles that have retained a lot of the scaled bird look of a footpaw, yet with lots of wonderful anthro tweaks. The pose allows a detailed look at the sole of one while getting a look at the tops of the other. Held up as they are, its SO wonderfully teasing and inviting to any paw-lover or pawsexual, that's for sure. :)
Alright... now that paws are out of the way, there's lots to like about the rest as well. Feathers are a pain... as someone who can't even seem to master doing fur yet, I cannot imagine trying to render out feathers in such detail as you here. One of the nice things about how you've done it is that they look the most feather-ish in the wings (where they'd need to be, obviously) and least feather like in the tail and legs, which on any griffinish character makes total sense since those are usually fur more so than feathers.
The clothing is beautiful - I just love the ornate border details on it, as well as how it joins with rings in the centre, which not only looks cool, but further underlines the attractiveness of the body under it. The lighting is gorgeous - soft but contrasted enough to really make it feel three dimentional, and the whole deal is so nicely sealed with her eyes being so sparkling and attention-grabbing. Very good job!

Wow, thank you again for the lovely in-depth comment! It's always appreciated :)
Hehe, glad you appreciate the feet - avian feet are a bit more difficult for me >_> Never really thought about it, but you're right - it does let you look at the top AND bottom of the feet at the same time, so that's handy :b
Yeah, the feather texturing seemed most... obtrusive?... around the main body of her limbs, so I tried to keep it faint. I sorta wanted her to look fluffy, in that great puffed-up way that birds tend to have, but I didn't know how to do that and keep the feminine silky-smooth look that I had done with the underpainting... so I just opted to give her smoother feathers rather than the puffier ones like on her head/throat.
The clothing design wasn't mine, but I really was fond of it as well! Seems like something actually fairly comfy, but also quite unique and pretty to look at.
Thanks again <3

You're welcome. ^_^ Least I can do given the immense work that goes into stuff like this.
Avian footpaws are tricky - the longer toes, and sometimes rear toe or hallux can make them a bit odd to draw compared to normal footpaws. As I said though, I think you've done a nice job of them - they're certainly different enough looking that they're clearly avian (that would be obvious even if all you could see was the feet) but not so much so as to be unrealistic. They still have the sort of proportions that a plantigrade or hybrid plantigrade/digitigrade character would need to walk comfortably. Nice scale work too.
Good call on the feathers - and in the end, that provides the best look anyway. A more furred (or sometimes you could say proto-feathered) design for the lower body keeps it easier to draw as well as more realistic for such a character. The floofy bits being up near the head and shoulders looks unique, plus in terms of flight would also be the most logical and useful place to still have full fledged feathers.
Hard to say if that'd be comfy or not - as a male, I can't say that'd be one of my top pics for minimal wear. XD My only concern would be if that the rings were metal, they'd be chilly. ^^;

Ah ha! There's my pretty bird! Jo didn't know my fa name when she did this one for me so she used my email name instead. :D I have to say this is probably the best pic of Coldfire that's ever been done and there's a ton of them floating around my hdd. The detail work came out beautifully and she nailed the character perfectly. If anyone who happens by here is looking for someone to commission I'd strongly recommend Jocarra to anyone after seeing how well she was able to do my phoenix fem. She's got a positively wonderful personality, provides a steady stream of wip files as she progresses, and once she gets started on the piece she grinds away at it till its done. I had an absolutely fantastic client experience with her and couldn't have been happier with the results.
Thanks yet again for doing such a fine job on my bird for me and I can't wait to work with you again on another piece in the future. :)

Hey, thank you so much! No, I didn't know your username - shall I change it for you?
I'm very flattered, and very happy that you've enjoyed how it turned out. I still think feathers are hard XD
But yes, thanks again, I really do appreciate it <333 It was great working with you :)

Thank you very much! I used a combination of brushes from http://danluvisiart.deviantart.com/.....Pack-118954791 and various stock textures.
