"Know Yourself" Series #4 - Vargr Lion
Number four in the on-going saga of Vrghr meeting his alternate forms. Here we have the wuffy and his feral lion form, in a rather heraldic pose, with a regal cupcake as the item of their interest!
From the looks of that glorious, round (and so huggable!) belly and that well-upholstered body, Vargr Lion has had more than a few cupcakes recently! *grins* Vargr wuff needs to devour a few more of those so he can catch up to his counter part!
Considering that this is the lion's "normal" state, wuff would LOVE to see the results of his kitty after packing away the "lion's share" of a bakery or buffet out there. That huge belly would be magnificent! *lusts*
In addition to his stocky form and plump, round belly, Vargr-lion shares the wuff's prismatic fur, pink paws and nose, and sapphire eyes. Also the wuff's thick mane is even longer and more magnificent in lion form, and fades slightly to blue at its tips, as does the tip of his tail fluff. Those are the key aspects of his lion state.
Once again,
sugarboy outdid himself in the creation of this image! He rendered it in the warm, sunny colors of the African savanna, and posed wuff and lion in a setting reminiscent of "Pride Rock", presenting their "king of the cupcakes" to the tribes waiting below!
Once more, please Fav on Sugarboy's page. A work of art like this definitely deserves personal recognition of the artist!

This wuff agrees completely! sugarboy really did a lovely job on the figures and the colors/shading both here! A wonderful bit of environmental coloring too! Even before wuffy read his description on the original commission text on his page, Vargr was saying to himself "This reminds wuff of the savana in Africa!", which is exactly what he intended (as a riff on Lion King).

Wuff hadn't studied that form enough to shift to an equine state. And there can be some pretty humorous or frightful results of Vrghr's shifted forms until he can get them right. *giggles*
Before he can change, wuff has to picture and more importantly, feel and understand every piece of the transformation he's trying to achieve. So new forms have a LOT of trial and error time needed before they're even close to right. It really helps if parts are similar to bits he's already familiar with, like wings, fur, feet, tail, etc. Totally new things, like hooves instead of paws, feathers for fur, etc., can be very tough for the wuff.
Even his practiced forms can go pretty crazily wrong if he gets distracted, is too tired, drunk, etc., when he tries to shift. *snickers* "What do you mean, otters don't have dragonwuff wings? OOOPS!!"

Wuff supposes it would be much easier if it was some sort of magic artifact, potion, scroll, etc., that had all the details "baked in" to the spell in the first place. Like an amulet of snake form or such. Then you just "pull the trigger" on the device or drink the potion, and *poof*, you're another critter. Then again, you get no say at all in what you turn out like when that happens.
Vrghr HAS used those sorts of tricks to make future transformations easier. For example, a good (but sneaky) friend gave wuff a cute gift (golden earring) that turned him into a liquid gold metal form, sort of like a canine golden Terminator 1000. After getting stuck that way for quite a while, before his friend showed wuff how to switch that trick off, Vrghr got REALLY familiar with the feeling of being a liquid being. So now he can shift to a liquid metal version of most of his other forms. It's really really tiring for him though, because so fluid a form needs pretty steady concentration to keep from just falling into a puddle. It's easier to trigger that earring if he wants to be a liquid metal canine, and just 'warp' that one into other form variations once the earring has changed him over.
Wuff's Otter form is another one that he learned from similar experience. A different friend kept casting a spell on wuffy to turn him into an otter so they could enjoy some water mischief. It got a lot easier for wuffy to take that form on his own after that, thanks to the experience of being in that body first.
Funny thing, when wuff does the changes himself, he nearly always ends up as a chubby version of the critter. His friends tell him that it's all subconscious; that he really identifies with being plump so much that the condition leaks into the forms whenever he changes, no matter what his conscious mind tries to tell him. *grin*
