Wlkwo (Faoladh)
Often referred to as by the more common name “wlkwo”, the Faoladh are a male-only race of lupine-humanoid hybrid fae. With their powerful frames, deadly claws, and glowing green eyes, they have been much maligned and there are still those who say, “A good wolf is a dead wolf”, but there are those who recognize them for what they are: protectors and guardians for the forests, and safe-keepers of spring and summer. During the warm years it’s fairly common to hear stories of wounded travelers being protected by brigands on the road or lost children finding their way home after following a “big doggy” that led them back to their village, or of a woman on her lonesome, trapped in the heart of the blizzard, saved from death by the warm embracing coat, with its mysterious sigil-like filials at every joint, of a Faoladh. Often in this last story, the woman awakes in the arms of a ruggedly handsome man who sometimes leaves shortly thereafter. The product of this tryst is always a male that for all intents and purposes seems like a normal boy, aside from perhaps a particularly ravenous appetite. That is, until the child comes of age and puberty hits, which for most Faoladh means leaving home for a life in the wilderness. However, from time to time one or two might adapt to society and might live among folk with little trouble, albeit rarely. Oftentimes these “civilized" Faoladh require glamour charms to disguise their appearance or learn magicks to do the same, and a fair number occupy the cloisters of Olgantha’s many churches, that is, if they do not revere Ulfrea as most often do out of their fae heritage.
While all Faoladh are wlkwo, not all wlkwo are Faoladh, most notably among them are the vicious gnolls. While sharing many physical aspects of their more altruistic bretheren, gnolls are bloodthirsty and monstrous, striking out against tiny villages on the outskirts of society and feasting on humans at their leisure. Virtually any remnant of compassion was driven out of them long ago, and they will even cannibalize their own in the midst of battle to renew their strength.
· Prohibited skill: Firearms + Explosives Trained skills: 3skills + Perception + Unarmed
Their large hands, sharp claws, and especially keen senses are amazing tools of the hunt, but they are more often a liability in handling delicate weaponry such as firearms and explosives--not the mention the stench of black powder can ruin their highly attuned sense of smell, and most Faoladh may as well be blind without it.
