Into the thick of battle, Muzafr leads her men, shouting orders even over the loudest of explosions!
It's about time I drew Muzafr in a battle-scene. Been wanting to do one for a while. This one, admittedly, is really effects-heavy as the most of the background I actually painted was the ground...which I covered up anyway. The rest is cloud brushes and sparkles and lots and lots of highlight layers.
I wanted to focus less on the background details, per say, and work more on the atmosphere. And also, thanks to my friend
Reskha who recently gave me some pointers on background composition, I think this one turned out really well! I really wanted to bring all the focus on Muzafr and her intense expression, so I took Snap's advice to up the contrast in those areas. I also spent a ton of time switching the piece from colour to gray scale so I could see it better, which helped a ton! I tweaked the background a lot during then, since I had a lot more bright haze effects across the whole piece, which drew the eye all over the place.
Muzafr is so intense. Gah, her scales - they took extra long on this one since I added two extra layers of shading. I'm real happy with how square and tense her posture is. I've also been having fun working on her design a bit. I've been making her more lanky and less human - more reptilian, per say - with a longer torso and limbs. Expect an updated reference sheet in the future.
Tracer rounds are bizarre, for the record. But I do like how I rendered them. ^^
And Nikki. I'll miss her and her brothers so while at OCS.
Muzafr is my sona!

amazing work and design, this must have taken hours, great work on the background and effect, I think I see that you used some fire and filtered it am I right?
yes tracer rounds are awkward but the military would be lost without them, they help us aim
Im also very amazed and the shading of the clothing and the scale, keep it up!

I see how this can be a battle scene as it is a dark almost suffocating atmosphere, an air that is very abrasive. I could also see this as a battle being near a volcano fallzone as it looks like pumas ash and rock debris falling from the sky; an like all its fiery rage this reflects in the dragon, and with its roar to the razor edge detail on them scales, it is a very nice image design.
