I've been doing another month of daily drawings. This picture is a compilation of four different days, which is why I drew each one a different way.
Eevee: Vector, consistent border width
Vaporeon: Vector, no borders
Flareon: Freehand with tablet

I started doing that style a couple years ago when I was doing my first Daily Draw month... I was running out of ideas and just started experimenting with shapes and things. It turned out good because I had sorta gotten bored with the usual vector art, and the change in approach brought some fun back into doing it. So far the drawings I've done in that style have gotten a lot of positive feedback, so that's cool too.
Still, I don't use it all the time because I don't want to get bored again. Compared to regular vector it's a little more annoying to go back and tweak things when they aren't coming together the right way.

I know exactly what you're talking about. Vector art tends to be sleek but stiff, while freehand art tends to be sloppier but full of life. While in this picture I did the varied stoke widths from scratch, it's really an imitation of what a freehand line might look like. In that weasel picture you linked before, I was just tracing over my existing pencil lines and got pretty much the same effect.
