[PHOTO] NS-8100 Nickle Plate Road 01 - Creighton, PA
I stole a glimpse of this Norfolk Southern Heritage Unit, NS 8100, commemorating the Nickle Plate Road while laying over in the Etna Yard on my way home from work today. (Feb. 19, 2014)
I raced home but missed it going through town. So I hop-scotched about 10 miles up the Allegheny River to Creighton, PA where I took these shots with my Canon 300D and new Cannon EFS 18-135IS lens.
This shot is down the tracks, looking down river, as NS 8100, and it's companion NS 8088, are paralleling Freeport Road and approaching the turn in the tracks. NS8100 is an ES44AC model locomotive.
I really like the juxtaposition of the tracks and the approach of the train at an almost 90 degree angle.

Enjoy!

The Conemaugh Line runs for a long time along the west bank of the Allegheny River almost at street level through lots of small communities that supported the steel and manufacturing industries of the day. It does make for some great photos.
I'm not as familiar with the Nickel Plate Road, but by your comment it serviced similar communities and industries along it's right of ways?
Glad you like the shot. Thanks.
