~Chapter Two~
Cartoons and Otakus
After that first night me and Teno hit it off pretty well, it turned out we were both into romance stories, cartoons, and art. We met at the Lover’s Nook every day after we got off work, and shared a cup of cocoa as we chatted. I was really happy seeing her shy little smile whenever I made her laugh, and I always got a warm fuzzy feeling in my belly when we were together. We were both into Disney cartoons, and of course anime (because it’s just so awesome.) and often-times we would watch episodes of our favorite shows on my laptop. As our friendship grew so did my feelings, I was almost certain she could tell by the looks I’d steal when we were sharing a loveseat by the window, and I was surprised she hadn’t mentioned it.
One day as the chill of November slipped into the cold grip of December, I learned how she truly felt towards me. We were sharing our daily cup of hot chocolate by the window, the cat waitress grinning at us from behind the counter as she prepared our “usual.” We had finally finished reading “Love in a Cubicle,” the book about the rivals at work falling for each other unknowingly, and were discussing it as we sipped our warm beverages. “I love how they finally figured out who their “mystery lover” was when they were trash talking each other about the ball.” Teno commented, “I wish I could admit my love to that special person..” she trailed off thoughtfully. “Special person?” I asked, burning my tongue on my cocoa. “Ouch!” She laughed softly at me and told me to open my mouth. I did, and she looked inside at my tongue. “Hm.. It looks like it’ll be ok, it’s just a little red,” she told me as she sat back down. I tried looking at my tongue, going crosseyed in the process and she just laughed more, that beautiful smile peeking through the shyness. “I love your smile.” I said with a laugh, unintentionally. As soon as it had escaped my mouth I blushed deep crimson with embarrassment and so did she. “I-I erm..,” she blushed modestly, “I l-like you too.” Her cheeks turned a even bigger shade of scarlet than they were, “I-I mean your smile! I like your smile too!”
I blushed a bit deeper beneath my pink fur, brushing some light blue hair out of my face. “You..You like me?..,” I asked quietly, not sure what to say or if I should tell her I liked her back. This question made her even more flustered, and with a polite “E-Excuse me..” she got up and hurried to the ladies room. As I sat there trying to recover from this shocking news, my heart about to beat out of my chest, the waitress slipped over to the table in front of me and sat in a chair backwards facing me. “Didn’t know she liked you?” she asked. “H-huh?” I dumbly answered, making her giggle a bit. “Your friend,” she replied, jerking her head over her shoulder towards the bathrooms, “You didn’t know she liked you?” I blushed deep red and squirmed a little in my seat. “Well.. no..” I admitted, making her giggle again. She reached out and placed her hand on my shoulder gently. “Don’t worry too much bout it hun, I was the same when my girl told me she loved me for the first time. It was kinda obvious to me that you and your friend had a little something goin on, but I didn’t think that you two didn’t know how each other felt.” This made me blush even darker still. “Y-you can tell how I—“ “Feel? Yeah.” She replied sweetly and smiled her friendly smile. “But she doesn’t,” she eyed the bathroom again “Think you should go tell her.” She gave me a supportive wink and went back to work as a customer came in and ordered a coffee. “She really knew all that just by watching us talk..?” My stomach swirled as I looked to her and got a supportive smile, before she eyed the bathroom again, then me, and back to the bathroom. Sucking up all the courage I had, I nodded to her and walked to the bathroom, nervously opening the door…
