nah Tall Hat Men accidentally created all the life on the planet and they're pretty skeeved by it and want to kill it all with their magics
Space is a higher element you got Fire, Water, Air, Earth for your basics, which combine to Steam, Lava, Lightning, Rain, Cloud, Ice for your complicates. The lankyhooves is made out of clouds and the fox on the side is lightning and foreground-frog there is ice. Space, Matter, Time, and Mind are your higher levels and they're harder to learn because you're not likely to be made out of them. Space magic here is about the relationship of distance and it's mostly about relocating things or changing how far away a thing is.

Matter and Time are necessary elements for lesser elements to congeal into actual life but they don't get to be MADE out of it

the people made of matter are all bizarre shape-shifting dudes with no understanding of death (because if you kill them they just shape-shift into something alive after a while) and who aren't welcome in society because they have uh, no understanding of death (so they might just kill a person at random without really getting that it's a problem
people made of time are forleggy beasts with shattered mirror for skin who basically make no sense because of time shenanigans
