This is the first in a series of tribute pictures of characters from my childhood. These guys from a bygone era played a very important role in that early part of my life, and many of them have influenced me in different ways.

This is Demetan, the main character of "Kerokko Demetan", an old anime created by Tatsunoko Productions in the 1970's. It was aired in Argentina about ten years later, in the mid-eighties. Now, anime shows from that time were notorious for being extremely sad and depressing, and Kerokko Demetan was no exception. To say this little frog had a tough life is a huge understatement. He constantly faced prejudice, torment, frustration, the death of beloved ones, and other such fun stuff, every single day of his life. I swear this was one of the very few animes that made me cry. And I mean cry for real, with tears running and all. Other animes that did that (also from the same era) were "Honeybee Hutch" and "Sandy Belle".

I'd love to watch these shows again.
