Here's part 3 of the my FBA characters Gale and Lenny. And a quickie pict to go along with the story.
FBA hosted by
Buckhopper, you guys can check this community out at his page and he's a real cool dude if you have questions and whatnots. Without further ado, here's the third installation:
“One Venti, black.” Gale pulled out his wallet for a five.
The cashier shook her head, “Your payment has already been taken care of.”
“what? By who?”
The hare pointed at a turned seated figure, head covered by a beanie, in the rear of the café. Gale wouldn’t have recognized who it was if he didn’t see the swinging ringed tail with the golden bracelet. Gale decided to wait for his order so he wouldn’t have to spend the time waiting by speaking with the lemur longer than necessary.
Picking up his order, Gale made his way toward the still seated lemur, patiently waiting as if he expected the wallaby to take his time. Gale cleared his throat to gain the lemur’s attention and when he turned, Lennart held the same smile during the night of Trev’s announcement as if it was permanently plastered on his face. Gale placed the five he was holding on top of the table, “Thanks for the gesture but I prefer it if I did not owe anyone anything. And next time, you should try this cliché at a bar rather than a coffee shop, the message would be more readable.”
Lennart chuckled, “I thought it would be fun to reenact a typical scene in a least expected environment for it to occur.”
“You’re weird”
“Therefore, I’m interesting”
“Hardly, anyways, thanks for today’s detour” As Gale was about to leave the premises, Lennart grabbed a hold of his arm and held up the five in his other in a returning gesture.
“Apologies, but I cannot accept this sort of payment.”
“And why not? It’s basically the same payment you used.”
“I’m currently expressing my dissatisfaction with the payment. You indicate that by paying the same amount of currency used in order to initiate this particular event would provide the satisfaction for not only the initial material amount but also the labor, i.e. having to wait ten minutes for the wallaby to finally contact me, done within the time it took to repay me? I’m not satisfied with that ideology nor with the payment that is presented to me, which means, you still owe me.”
“…are you serious?”
Lennart smirked with a raised brow, “I take my work as a paralegal very seriously. So I have a proposal that you can settle on that shouldn’t leave you ill tempered like the last time. Have a seat.”
Gale grudgingly took the available seat across from Lennart, “So…what’s the proposal?” He did not know what to expect since he had almost no information of this lemur.
Lennart took a sip from his cup and gently placed it on the table, “All I want is…a talk”
“… really.. just a talk?”
“Eeeyup, do you agree with the terms?”
“Sure, whatever, so what are we talking about? You want to know why I’m an ass to everyone? Or that you find enjoyment in dragging others into your hackneyed skits?”
Responding with a lazy grin, the lemur spoke, “Well, let’s take it slowly. For starters, why the 24-ounce dose of bitter hype in the afternoon? Already cracking the z’s while the sun’s up?”
Gale was skeptical but followed along, “uhh, well, a part of taking the pre-med program, your midterms would overlap the times when you prepare for finals so I’m basically cramming.”
“Finals studying already? Sorry, but I didn’t know your private university’s schedule is so far ahead compared to two years ago when I attended.”
“Actually…Finals studying session does begin a month from now. I just review the current course load as I learn new material so I won’t be overwhelmed…you said you’ve been a graduate for two years now?”
“Virquill U graduate of 2008, studied philosophy and physics, not my personal interest but better than pursuing primarily music.”
“Are you also attending graduate school there?”
Lennart flinched, the first time he showed vulnerability since Gale met him, but the reaction was short-lived for the lemur composed himself immediately.
“No. I’m actually not in a program. I wanted to work afterwards and managed to get a position at a firm I used to intern at and been working there since. Yet, I’m still in touch with a few of my peers I’ve met during my school years. Do you have any others you talk to other than Tre?”
“Not really, others decide to spend their precious time going to parties and getting inebriated.”
“Why don’t you join them?”
“To get drunk?”
“Nah. Just to hang out. You know, just doing something other than scanning the books. You actually haven’t come to any of the gigs in the past month since the party, maybe coming to our last one this year wouldn’t be the end of the world?”
“Not worth the time or energy. You should be focusing all of that into trying to be successful and harnessing your potential. So even though what I’m doing is somewhat boring, I just have to bite the bullet and the shit will pass”
Gale noticed Lennart staring intently and directly at him, not as intimidating as his father’s but still unpleasant. Gale was about to break the silence but Lennart did first with a baffling question, “What if what you are trying to succeed in is not the same as your potential? Sometimes, people would dedicate their efforts towards success in the context of society’s point of view without having assessed their own personal happiness.”
“huh?”
“You just expressed that you aren’t happy with your current studies even after almost three years of program-related courses. Doesn’t that seem like you’re biting the bullet for too long?”
Gale scowled, was this lemur trying to piss him off?
“You mean to imply that I’m wasting my time in gaining an education for a better future since there’s a chance that I may not succeed in the field or showcase my ability as an individual because the factor of ‘happiness’ doesn’t play in my success?”
Lennart took a sip from the cup again, “Not wasting, since you are actively using your mind. But, your happiness might be getting compromised in the process of your so-called ‘success’, which, in my opinion, is something you cannot not gain if you’re doing something that doesn’t drive your fervor.”
Gale was having a difficult processing the notion that the life he lived was merely wasted efforts.
Lennart continued, “Though it’s clear based on your response that you have had moments in which you knew this about yourself. Your response seems to have been more directed toward convincing yourself rather than the questioner. Also, when you explain your life’s plan, it’s like watching an amateur actor reading off a script during a rehearsal performance, people can easily tell if you’re genuine or not.”
“uggh, please just shut up.”
Gale was massaging his temples due to an unexpected migraine. And the two sat in silence, Lennart looking off in the distance while Gale’s hands were holding his head from hitting the table.
Lennart gently relayed, “Look I’m not trying to tell you which path is right or not. There really isn’t a concrete answer for that, but listen to this, ‘Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your own actions’. Don’t follow a script that wasn’t even written for or by you.
“Where’s that from?”
“Tenzhin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama, a Tibetan Buddhist monk.”
Gale stared blankly at the table before inquiring, “Are we done now?”
Lennart ears perked forward, “oh, yeah. We’re good. I’m actually surprised that you stayed this long.”
Gale picked himself up along with his massive coffee not long until Lennart handed him the five back.
“The coffee was my treat so the transaction doesn’t need to happen”
“But we already talked. Wouldn’t this mean you're disrupting a pending settlement, thus breaking your own ideology?”
“Then sue me. Haha~ oh, and you should lose the Christian schoolboy haircut, there’s no ruler-armed nuns around here to slap you; plus, you would look very charming if you pulled your hair back”
And with a grin, Lennart waved him goodbye as the puzzled wallaby stumbled out the café.
Gale took the bus towards his apartment, he didn’t have work today but that doesn’t mean he shouldn’t study. He took a sip of his coffee, Bitter. Gale sighed and took the available seat but saw an aged basset hound having difficulty standing. He offered his own in which she gratefully smiled in acceptance, then he arm-locked the closest bus pole.
Still holding the five, Gale placed the bill back in his wallet; however, he noticed a scribble on one edge, depicting some digits as well as a message.
“If you ever need to talk.”
That’s twice now that this lemur snuck something into his grasp.

I began fleshing out the story about a month ago. The characters were always with me since 2011 (http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6111493/), but that was me being a furry and shiz. Gradually, the characters kept changing species to fit their stories in which the stories also kept changing...
Then I came across several of
Pac's work for the FBA around early last year which opened me up to an excited community of storytellers and artists. Anyways, I was merely following the progress of the the association, enjoying the huge amount of content and updates until I decided to reach out to Buckhopper to volunteer. After that, the FBA provided me the foundation for my characters to begin interacting and start coming to life and so, I began planning and writing the stories since the mid of January and already have enough content to last me probably a year to work on b/c I'm slow. XD
Then I came across several of

My, so the FBA thing gave you a great experience to be with, no wonder why you wanted to make some ideas related with that. How wonderful and great that you got the chance to experience that, and thanks to that, you got a good inspiration to produce such works like that. I´m really happy for you ^ ^ makes me want to give it a shot somehow of being part of a good experience as you did XD
yeah it's pretty cool now. I can work on 2 long-term projects and if I want a break, I can just doodle and shiz, knowing I have something occupying my mind. It's really chill, just start with a small general idea and then you can just think about it as you go with your days and soon you start getting excited of the ideas that your mind tends to create while draydreaming XD
It's the most uplifting thing for me to see other people getting inspired by the FBA like this. :) It's great to watch you write and draw within the FBA Universe, and what I really dig about this stuff is that you're developing corners of the universe that don't get much attention.
Of course, the FBA started off as a sports league, and the sports league will always be the primary focus of the project. But sports don't happen in a vacuum. They happen because there are fans that watch it, and a society in place that values it. This is the kind of stuff that builds on that world the exists around the FBA, those people not just off the court, but not even involved in the league, going about their lives while the FBA plays on a TV here or a radio there. And that's actually very important to me. This kind of stuff is the root of sports, the world that lets it live, and thank you for taking the time to grow it. :)

thanks yo~
Not being a follower of sports news made me hesitant of even beginning their story but the FBA provides opportunities and a strong foundation for the story to become even more emotionally driven by reasons that I cannot spoil to the public yet~
The progress might be slow since I'm starting from a point in their story where the aspects of FBA don't seem existent but I'll get to it eventually XD
I really appreciate all the help you've given me and hope you find further enjoyment in future installations, man.
