Well well, to proofe that i am still active and have not dropped dead yet, here something to peep at!
I think about two years ago i had posted some pictures about me wearing the base skeleton of a tail. Unfortunately, i have given up that one, because the design of it was bound to fail.
Also i was making a fursuit head, but that one was off shape and not really easy to wear aswell.
But now, beginning of 2014 i shall present you the new and improved mesh base for a new model! While i made the last one with a skeleton from15x3 millimeter aluminuim bars, plastic grid as mesh base and padding foam for the finer shape i realized how that was not only very heavy, but also extremely hard to shape. Furthermore i realized how i wanted to form it's surface - i am no big fan of furry dragon suits, there are so many and lots of them look to comic-ish to me, or simply awefull.
There needed to be a new design.
And here you can see the very first pictures of my new idea. This time i have used 3 millimeter aluminum bars. These are much lighter and actually have some advantages in bending compared to the edgy ones i have used before. Also you cannot hurt your head on the edges naymore >..< Finally i was able to give the head a much slimmer fit due to the fact that the bars are so much easier to bend.
Drilling holes in the upper and lower jaw parts i managed to create simple bolt joins, and with some industrial-grade rubbers connecting the two a movable maw was done.
Now, going to the base of the mesh i have improved aswell! As i said before, i used a plastic grid, used to keep leaves from falling into gutters. Again it weights alot and is very thick. This times solution is way easier - chicken wire. You know, that hexagon weaved metal wire? Well, again, this is easily shapable, thin and extremely light. Covered the head with it and violá, there is a nice base mesh.
And as you can see here, i have already begun to cover it aswell. Might sound funny, but it's actually norma paper macheé. Using kitchen and toilet paper in wallpaper glue i found out that it forms a rock solid, but crack and shatter proof mesh. This i will now define until it looks like an actual face and finally sand it down, so it is nice and smooth.
Ill keep the final steps to myself, see how they work out, how good it looks and if i can advance the method before applying it on the head.
Also, this photo was taken at
ghostboy 's attic, and a HUGE thanks to his dad for helping me out with some advice and his impressive collection of tools.
Unfortunately that is also a big downside, since i live about 2 1/2 hours car drive away from them, and my car broke down just recently. So the project is on hold right now, as much as i hate to say it.
Anyhow, thats it for now! If you want to have some more peeks at how this baby looks so far, check out these dropbox links!

The ears, if you wonder, i bought from a hunter trophy preperator store. They are from macheè and cloth.
Wich i really like about them is that they will function as actual ears, so i don't ned people to scream at me while wearing it.
Thats it!
Tell me what you think if you like and ask questions if you have some, ill gladly reply.
Over 'n' out,
Lé Daygo.
