Been trying to convince myself to work more real media again. Before I ever touched digital I worked in acrylic..colored pencil and pastel. But that was looong long ago and I have since gotten very rusty. The problem, for me, with real media is...space. I do not have the space to work real media. My living quarters are fairly cramped and sooo though I have an art desk..it is usually buried under my pile of art/framing supplies. and so usually my bed serves as my impromptu desk...which works..but I tend to get frustrated with the long setup/breakdown times :/...and it also prevents me from working big. I often lose motivation to paint once I start setting up. But I was determined to at least finish one real media piece to showcase at Califur..and so here she is.

In Lord of the Rings the Simbelmyne or 'evermind' was a small white flower that grew on the graves and tombs of the people of Rohan and it was meant to symbolize lasting memory of those that passed on. It seems a bit morbid I guess, but I liked the name..the idea of something so frail and delicate carrying such depth in association..plus it just kinda clicked in my head x).
Yes. Yes you should. (and I really should re-read it!)
It's sometimes a slow go, Tolkien had a thing for using a LOT of words, but it's worth it.
I must admit that when I read it (I was...12, I think), I first gave up after the first few chapters. But then my sister hauled me to the movie's to see FotR, and I ran straight home and started reading again after that. Took me a while to get through FotR, but I read TT in two days. I kid you not. ANd then RotK I read over the course of a month.
Mmf needs to read it again <3

I think I'll have to step back from being compared to Robert Bateman. He is one of my favorite wildlife painters...and I hardly think I am anyyyyywhere even within reach of his astounding skill and scope in vision...but I thank you for the comment all the same..I am humbled.
Wow, it's just so lovely... I love your traditional paintings, they have a wonderful feel to them. Out of curiosity, how long did this one take you from start to finish? (approximately)
I know what you mean about real media stuff. I haven't been painting at all lately because of the set up/break down time which is so irritating. I'm not as comfortable in digital media though, so I've been using my markers instead. They are quick, require little set up, less messy than paint...
I also know what you mean about working big vs working small. I like working small for the very same reason. I digress though... XD Anyway, lovely work! Wish I was going to AC so I could see it in person. ^^

approximately...humm subtracting distractions..breaks and etc *ponders* probably 8 hours...could be a little more or a little less. Next time I will try to time myself o_o;. I actually did a lot of backtracking with this one. In one thing digital art spoiled me it was being about to jump around a lot while painting. Well with real media this is a bit harder to do being paint dries..fast! So I am being forced to become more controlled in real media x:. I would really love to work big, something about a big open space makes me feel liberated art wise. But working small is quite the art too...cramming all that detail into such a tiny space is just mind boggling. I will not be at AC actually, my next con after Califur is Rainfurrest and after that FC (I would really like to go to Rocky Mountain furcon sometime !)
im totally the same! my bed is my work space lol >_< and i hardly ever get to paint because of finding stuff to mix paint on etc so i use old plastic boxes i find :p and i spread out all over the floor... it means also that people are allowed no where near my room for a week whilst paint dries 8D
this is a fabulous piece i love all the detail :3 very beautiful

it wont be on sale at califur :). Im just bringing it to display ^_^. Also since I keep forgetting, I'd absolutely love to trade with you! I saw that your que is enormously long so perhaps when you are a bit less bogged down ^_^..would be proud and honored to have a plushy made by you.
Whoa, and I mean whoa. I Must have said that a dozen times out loud seeing this piece for the first time. I can definitely see why people compare you to Robert Bateman, but I would like to make another comparison. The only other furry artist I have ever seen that has put this level of detail into her work is Dark Natasha. Simply amazing.
Even with the previous ones in mind, this is an outstanding artwork. Again the pose and details are so great that I could look at this picture for hours and I would not get bored. Again the factor traditional media amazes me a lot. Anatomy, pose and composition once again are brilliant....and when I look into those eyes, I see the wild, free and beautyful spirit behind the picture and the character as well. You are a master in creating and capturing all that within your art. It is always a great pleasure to simply look at your pictures.
