I have a Russian blue pair to put together once I have a free nursery cage.

I want to too but their momma is really protective yet. She's a sweet rat otherwise so I think she's just a momma bear.

This is so sweet, yet so sad, as I practically saw this just after I read another artist I watch lost her pet rat.
But either way, they are beautiful and they all look healthy and well cared for. Congrats on the little ones!

I know that feel. The dad of this litter died a few days ago and I have an older retired mom that's not looking too hot.

Thanks. Kuro is amazing. This was her first (and only) litter yet she was great. She did better than any of my previous moms. I think the cold weather actually helped because she was constantly on the nest for the first week.

She may be a good mother, but you have to remember she can only be a good mother because her own "parent" is taking so good care of her. c: Without you, she wouldn't be healthy or happy enough to care for a litter, so split the credit 50/50 between both of ya.

And I do hope they leave this world peacefully. RIP, lil ratties.

I thank you for your kind words but I wasn't putting myself down. Ignoring that, I could feed my rats steak and top quality organic veggies, spend all my time with them and they could still be bad moms or have genetic issues that cause them to be poor moms.

Most of mine go in their sleep. I've only had to put a few down for health issues.

Either way, you are a great owner and whether they sleep in or have to be put down, it's obvious that you know what you are doing and ask professionals when you don't. c: You have a heart too pure to be just golden.
Bad moms will be bad moms no matter what you do. You are helping the good moms get a chance to show how good they can be. c: That, my dear, is the difference.
