well the idea behind that mask is that he is venting so much power that his words alone can hurt mortals, so the mask in required to "muffle" his power

well a lot of his demon powers are from his fathers side, Wolven, one of the 7 demon lords of hell,

and one of his powers in the "roar of the beast" where demonic energy gathers in the mouth to make into "body-shattering" blast of sound, but in this "unleashed" form , kitt can not hold back all the power in his body, so he wears the mask so innocent people are not hurt by his voice
