Well, so much to do, but at least a little time to do it now. All Star Week, waiting for the chance to play in the Rookie Challenge, picking up my ride as it finally was finished. Frankie figured it would be something great to have all ready for me by the time the All Star Week came, so I could arrive in real style. He was great about that, and, like me, he loves classic cars. They may be older then the new “rockets” but many of them were still “jets” that could run circles around the new carbon fiber super engineered, space aged road ships. Frankie always felt that the new cars were designed with performance and speed more in mind than driver comfort and great looks. And in some ways I think he’s right. Seen some that go faster than you can imagine, but they shake you apart in the attempt for blinding speed. But this, this car, a ‘71 Plymouth Hemi ‘Cuda drop top was to be an experience to drive, to be art and power, all at once. And Frankie guarantees delivery, to make it run better than original, have all the sound, and all the modern tweeks hidden by the classic. Custom paint job, Jet black, indigo, and electric blue, leather and the works all tuned up to 11.
And all that’s left is one thing Frankie wants me there for. It’ll be good to stop and see everyone again. Cassie, Grant, Sandra, Cliff, and Frankie, the whole gang. Of course a long stop to visit with the parents, catch up and maybe a few drinks with the gang would work out nicely, then the road-trip to Texas to show it off would be a great way to relax and get ready for the exhibition. It was great to spend some time, however short at home and with the gang, especially after Frankie showed the one little tweek he had added, to the trunk. A bit of space specifically set up to allow for myself and others to sign the car, as well as their own signatures to who rebuilt and remastered this masterful piece of car history and engineering. But, of course, after a night out with the old crew, bringing it home to show off to dad (he had always been one who enjoyed the oldies), got some sleep and prepared for the long drive to Austin and the All-Star week. Good thing that some of the details were “updated” even in their hidden places, sometimes the radio wasn’t as good through the more abandoned ribbons of asphalt. But it was good to let the top down, listen to my playlist, and let the wind blow through my fur on the way to the festivities.
Granted, I didn’t realize that too many others would notice who it was driving the car as much as the car, as it seems that someone found their shutter skills up to par to catch me on my way to the hotel. I guess sometimes you don’t realize just what you are after you've spent hours driving a legend of your own, especially when it’s driving smooth and sweet. Soon enough it’ll be time to show that it’s not just my style that got me here, but my skills, soon enough at the Rookie Challenge.
