Every now and then Drake gets some silly ideas, and I end up in discussions with him about them. Either way we had some fun talks about labels and especially the term Popufur in the fandom and what not. Fun cameo is Fun however! But here is his words on the matter.
By

This was an idea I had floating around my head until I had an idea of what to draw.
Over the years in the culture, I've experienced and had enjoyed the endless amount of talent, creativity, determination, and will that people create from their imagination. Unfortunately the more years that came by the more darker essence came to cloud the rest of the future horizons among us.
If there was another meaning to the word Downfall, it would surely come more further into the future. I believe that the word POPUFUR itself has created a disruption in equality of us, leaving a major chunk feeling segregated in a psychological state of mind. I don't like what it represents and what it has caused honestly. I will say I have met nice people at least. I believe if you can do, say, or create wonderful things with the talent you have, it doesn't mean you need a label stamped on you. Sure you may think it's nice, but sooner you will have more weight on your shoulders to the point where you're buddies with Atlas himself.
No matter where you go or what you do everyone will always expect the best and only the best out of you. Hell, as long as you remain a great asset to a powerful system, you'll be just fine. I don't want that. I'd rather known as an eccentric other than someone who tries so desperately to be one of the guys.....I don't care. I'm just a normal guy living a normal life, especially with a life away from the computer. I'm a regular person. I put on my pants like everyone else. Nothing more, nothing less.
Maybe....just maybe, I should declare WAR on POPUFUR.
I'm Drake, and I'm a REGUFUR.

Not to mention the term itself is invariably different to many people. To some it just means you're popular. To some it means your a shit asshole with their head so far up there ass.
I've run into people with the opinion that they refuse to commission POPULAR people because they're too popufur and shit. Just blows my mind.

Well, refusing to commission popular people does have one good benefit: It spreads the money out a bit, so you avoid the 'working class, celebrity class' divide most places (such as Youtube and the like) get.
It's better for the fandom in the long run to encourage multiple people to embrace art, than focus on the very best to the exclusion of all else.

I don't mind people prefer to commission cheaper less well known artists. But when the attitude about it is that of a self righteous hipster asshole who refuse sto commission well known people because the're too Mainstream.. well they can rightly go fuck off with that bullshit.
My point was more that Hipsters serve an important role as the balancing force to those who commission only well-known people, because they can't be bothered with 'Amateurs' (which, to be fair, is perfectly valid if you want expensive art to show off to your friends as a status symbol, but if that's the goal I'd recommend modern art over furry art)
It'd be better to have neither, but if we've got to have one, we need both.
Besides, it's possible they just don't want drama - have you seen how much drama there is with some artists? Heck, quite a few artists refuse to acknowledge themselves as furry artists, and I find the more popular someone is the more likely they are to disavow any connection, so trying to commission popular people can get you a sneer and a 'I'm not one of those perverts. I just like anthropomorphic animals, don't lump me in with those sick furries!'
Which is never fun, and the risk of it might be enough to settle for worse art.
But, I have said far too much on a subject I've only observed from afar - all art I've commissioned came from people who were kinda-but-not-quite friends at the time, and half of it was free (but even then there was still drama)

In the end I think we shouldn't be commissioning people based on their status.. but their work.. If you like it, commission it! XD If you don't, move on!
But I get what you're saying, lots of factors in things like these. I just people would use better judgement and reasoning behind their choices instead of "I'm not commissioning him, he's too popular"

I more often than not hate anyone who considers themselves 'Popular' because they tend to be self entitled assholes who get butthurt when you dont give a flying fuck about them.. I cant even imagine what a popufur acts like.. Unlike those who lable people as 'popular' while said person who is getting labled wants nothing to do with it..
It's one thing to acknowledge and accept the fact that those around you consider you to be a popular person. However the difference comes in how you act as a person in response to that knowledge and awareness of your position in the community. Popular or unpopular, if you're a good guy, you're a good guy. If you're an asshole, then you're an asshole, tag or no tag.
I honor your thougth of equality in here. Unfortently there is no such thing. the tiering already sliped in. And you on the more popular end of this bargain. I dont know how it started, but I know we cant get rid of it anymore. And its not the most fair thing to have but when was something fair in this world to begin with?
At last you one of the cooler popus around in my oppinion. So please dont overheat your mind. *hugs*
