The speckle-y look is kind of interesting (in a good way!), vs. just a simple solid color, color gradient or fur pattern.

Interestingly enough, I've seen at least one artist who uses this to do fur patterning. They do a pretty strong speckle pattern, and then use the blur tool (lightly, of course) in the direction of the fur, to make kind of a furry look. I thought it was interesting when I first saw it, but I haven't had the reason/time to actually try it out myself. Something to try and see how it works maybe?

No, not at all. I like the stippled look because it's different from a traditional "fur" look. It just made me think of that artist that started his fur texture that way. I only mentioned it because I've never seen anyone do fur that way before. Everyone else seems to do like areas of color, and then 3 or more hair colors and it takes them a long time (but it looks great). This one artist using the stipple pattern and the blur tool got it to look similar in less time.

It's something I have wanted to experiment with since I saw it, so I just thought I'd mention it to you is all.
