Endemic to mainland Australia, they are the most common cockatoo found even in urban areas of the country. Their name derives from the Aboriginal language Gamilaraay, and has since become Australian English slang for ‘idiot’.

They are literally everywhere, like squeaky pink pigeons! They're quite shy though so it's not easy to feed them by hand or get close to them. they're so adorable, though.

See you say that... and then it's 5am and you're awoken to the terrifying sound that is a flock of a dozen or more cockatoos synchronised screaming because something spooked them.

My ears still haven't recovered 8c
