Since I've already illustrated what Deren's Imperial Guard armor looks like, I figured that I'd also do a quick writeup of what he wore in the days when he was a slave and gladiator. Unlike his Imperial armor, the design of his gladiator armor can change from battle to battle, so I wrote up a few guidelines on what kind of armor he would wear (and what weapons he would use) in the arena. If you're drawing him for some reason... just have fun with the design. I'm not terribly strict about it. :p
I'm also including a few examples of what I mean when I say "high tech melee weapons":
