Well, she's not even a princess so that's something, I guess.
Just a concept sketch for something, felt like showing it. Have I ever told you I greatly dislike the "combat bikini"-look? It may seem weird with all the naked vixens I draw, but nonsensical "armor" on someone actually expecting to do any fighting just doesn't feel right. Just because you're "going light" doesn't mean exposing your midsection helps any.
And then there's outfits with giant pauldrons and/or capes that are entirely too long, but eh, I better not turn this into a giant rant :b

Well that is because it's meant to be rather light armor, what with the intention of her being able to move fast. Also the setting being high fantasy with magic and such, with her element being wind, so to me it would make sense to cover the essential areas, as she's not going to be going exactly toe to toe.
So yeah, technically this isn't as much armor as it is an outfit, but a fantasy setting with magic can be used to handwave some things away.
Also the Greek Hoplites and Roman Legionaries wore pretty much as much as this, plus a helmet, so it's not that unreasonable an armor, I wouldn't think. Well... okay they had shields too. And fought in formations... but still.

By all means, rant away. The chainmail bikini look has never made much sense to me either, except as a means of titilation. The bared midriff is probably the dumbest move one can make when considering armor, since that is the least naturally protected, yet carries so many vital organs. This armor setup actually makes much more sense.
Also, cute chibi fox! I want one to hug! Make this into a plush!

Definitely not a vixen to trifle with!
If the faulds (the "skirt") are made of heavily quilted material or even quilted mail, it makes enough sense. Also justifiable if she scavenges equipment, and thus might not have found enough pieces that fit properly to make a complete suit.
I agree that something light like this would work for someone that favors slash-and-dash over a dogged slug-fest. If her hearing is good (as would be expected of a fox!) she would have a great situational awareness, and be hard to sneak up on. People throwing things would present the greatest threat; their best target would be the torso, right in the area protected by the cuirass. The head is a small and tricky target to hit reliably, and can't always guarantee a knockout. Even modern firearms are best targeted on "Center of Mass."
...can you tell I read Wikipedia an awful lot?
