They hate it so much. You spray it on things you don't want them to eat and when the tongue touches it, the let it go because it tastes like ass. Trust me. I know, just don't ask how.

Ya I am gonna have to go with Nady on this one , bitter apple spray works wonders , my aunts old dog Midgey was a terror till they started using the stuff , after a few months all you would have to do is say bitter apple spray and the dog would stop what ever it was doing.

Actually I think the answer for the power cords is simple- They have the urge to bite and chew, and certain materials appeal more for the feeling of chewing than others. When you get down to it people are that way too, if they can't visualize what it's going to feel like chewing, they get a bit put off to the idea of eating it. A very good example of this is squid vs. calamari (fried squid).
