Yes, you read that right! I have a piece of pretty orange Topaz in matrix from Utah. Pieces of this size are called "thumbnails" - this one's a few centimeters across!

After they really begin collecting, rockhounds will generally begin to specialize in certain minerals or themes. I met the coolest guy at the Grassy Creek mineral show who collected nothing but minerals with inclusions (and bought a few pieces from him to boot :3), and as for me, well... I haven't got the money to really specialize yet, but there are certain minerals that I aim to get at least a few specimens of!

Topaz being my birthstone, it's one of them, and I'm glad to say I can check it off my list!
