Requested by my good friend
chrismukkah , for his friend
anbessa . A portrait of anbessa's Lion fursona as a Samurai.

This is based on an actual work by the great 19th century Japanese artist Tsukioka Yoshitoshi, who was the last master of the art of Ukiyo-e , the Japanese style of woodblock printing. The original work, from Yoshitoshi's print series Kaidai hyaku senso , symbolically depicted a lone Samurai making a last stand against the changes brought by the Meiji restoration by defiantly challenging a barrage from modern firearms armed only with his sword.

Heeheee....Yes! I wasn't given any specific instructions for this except for a reference sheet for
anbessa's character....I off handedly remarked that the character reminded me of a scraggly, down on his luck Samurai, and the idea took root when I suddenly remembered I had a book on the history of the Samurai with lots of examples of art of the period, and that started the ball of inspiration rolling for me...^__^....It was fun to try something different! ^__^

why, thank you very much! I knew something was coming, but this is somewhat unexprected. :)
very unusual, and stylish, and I like it. in fact, I love it to bits!
he, me as a scraggly, down on his luck samurai, would never have come to my mind... maybe because of that curious sabre from that sheet which I added for no apprent reason? :)
give that scaly pangolin a hug from me willya! :)
