I am attempting to teach myself acrylics. I mean, actually learn how to use them properly. I keep wondering why I was such a slacker in art school. Why didn't I try harder to actually LEARN this stuff?!?
This is my guinea pig. Cat. I'm actually maybe halfway through painting it already. It's very slow going right now. I think I'll be able to do it a lot faster once I have a lot more practice with it. I'm thinking I need to get better brushes, too. Tired of having my materials hold me back.
This is in one of those 4x5ish moleskine sketchbooks, so there's a lot of detail to play with in a small space. I'm glad I decided to do it so small, since part of what's taking so long is getting the paint to cover everything. Slow slow. Makes it impractical for real illustrations until I learn to control it better.

I...used to paint inside of sketchbooks. Key word used to >.> It's okay, but your work can get sorta crunchy.
Anyhow..if you have any questions about acrylic, I am pretty experianced in it and I'd be more than happy to help. My technique isnt normal, very glaze and tint-y, but if you are more interested in the traditional style I can help there too. Also, Kit has done a million bajillion things in acrylic and oil and had extensive training in them while she attended her froofy magnet highschool, I'm sure she'd have some great advice too :) I have this great memory of going into her basement for the first time only to be met with hundreds of discarded canvases of all sizes, mostly figure painting, stacked like a cartoon everywhere. Almost felt like they were part of the house's foundation ^^;
