Another one of my "realistic-ish anthro portrait" practice. I decided to now practice on characters of people I admire. This one is for
:3 Because she's awesome :O

This was such a lovely surprise!! Thank you so much again <3
It's not really critique but if you want to get some nice shadows going, try using layer modes and different reflecting colours. I found this awesome tutorial on basically how to do it: http://adamscreation.blogspot.com.b.....er-street.html Hope that helps a bit (I can't wait to try the tutorial out myself, it's a little different to how I usually do my colouring).
Again, thank you!!

You're very welcome :) Thank you so much for the tip! I do struggle with light and shadows when drawing things I don't have a full reference of ^^; I use only 1 layer for character (and one for bg, one for sketch) - something new I'm trying, to escape a routine I had of using 100 layers. But I'll still try to use this shading technique somehow - maybe by creating more layers only at the beginning or just trying to achieve same effect on one layer :)
I know that feeling, the most layers I've ever used for one piece was 400 or so (sadly I don't even have a copy of the picture anymore, it was quite a few years ago now). I used to use a separate layer for each tiny detail, it was ridiculous, I don't know how the computer handled it XD These days I can usually keep it down under 20 or 30 layers on the bigger side. The problem with using layer modes is that, as far as I know, you need a separate layer for each one, and sometimes merging them screws them all up unless you flatten the entire image. That said, I'm still fairly new at using them myself so there might be a way. I tend to stick to hard light the most, it's made a huge difference in how I shade and it's lots of fun to play with :D
I use SAI to draw newest pieces since I love the watercolor tool. It mixes up the color I'm using with the color below - but only on the same layer. There is also oil water tool, which I think works same on separate layers, but for now I guess I'll stick to the watercolor tool :p
