Two otters doing what otters do, among an underwater algae garden of a long fallen tree.
Its finally done (except for the varnish). This was a lot more challenging then I had first thought it was going to be, and what should have taken a week, turned into three. I had gotten used to portraits with simple poses, and basic backgrounds. I did want to do something a little different, but I had no idea was I got myself into with this one. Plus, my inner demons of doubt and anxiety plagued me the ENTIRE time. I almost trashed the thing and started over several times. I am pleased with its outcome though. This will not be the final posting, and with repost once I varnish it (the darks become deeper and the colors more pure with a varnish). As usual the photo does not give justice to the painting it self... I need to hire a pro photographer for this crap, invest in a full photography studio...
Media: Acrylic on Masonite
Size: 16"x20"

And while it is a painting, this is a photograph of the painting. So, you are not entirely mistaken. Painted in acrylics, taken with a Canon Powershot A495 (10.0 MP), on a cheap aluminum tripod under natural morning light in my living room. Came out pretty good, though the colors are just ever so slightly washed out (possibly so slight only I would notice). I will be taking a new photo and re posting of this once I get it varnished. IF I cane get a better shot then this.

Yea, no limited color on this one.
I used most of my full palette (12 colors: Titanium White, Raw Umber, Ultramarine Blue, Cerulean Blue, Phathalo Blue, Viridian Green, Sap Green, Cadmium Yellow, a speck of Cadmium Orange, Burnt Sienna, Burnt Umber, and Ivory Black)
Thank you *Grin*

Tell your anxiety and self doubt to get stuffed. This is a wonderful composition that has so much life to it, a sort of playful beauty that I think is quite uplifting.
When I saw the thumbnail, I didn't think it was a photo. I thought it was exactly what it is - a beautifully executed piece of art.

I feel they are a little hard of hearing, and stubborn... Bastards... Though they are ugly ill tempered imps with a unrelenting single-mindedness, they can serve a greater purpose. Though, I am still trying to figure out what that is exactly; other then making me miserable more often then not. *Shrug*
And Thanks for the kind words *Bows*

I know the feeling. I think sometimes they work as a motivator to drive your own self-improvement. But sometimes they just don't know when to stop, and as a consequence, neither do you.
But seriously though, beautiful piece. Could easily be sold as a poster and I'm sure it'd go down well in any market.

I have to disagree though. True in illustration, traditional media artist are rare in this age, traditionalist are still dominant in other areas. Fist and foremost the Fine Art realm, and they are totally dominate in Portrait Field. Not to discredit or lower the amazing work that can be done by digital mediums, or to show my lack of vision or my ignorance. But, digital lacks longevity. 400 years from now which has the greater possibility of still being around? A digital image, or an archival properly preserved painting? I am going for the long haul!
400 years from now I want to be remembered as an artist of the "Furry Art Movement of the early 21st century" When all other digital art has been lost or destroyed, my originals will be hanging in a museum somewhere. Trust me, history will record Furry as some sort of Bohemian an Art movement. *Wink*
Enjoy!

Undeniably stunning. The level of detail is amazing, well-evidenced by all the other comments above. ^.=.^
I love the underwater lighting touch on both of the otters, but man that had to be nerve-wracking to paint over 'em. Seems that way from my perspective, anyway. All of those bubbles, too, and the shadow on each... very impressive.
'N those fish look tasty. Hope that guy in the back catches his. *chuckles*
Looking forward to seeing it in person, too. And I'll be sure to give you a full report of the intended recipient's reaction when it's finally delivered.
