So, um, yeah, it turns out it's more difficult to perform the Red Fire Slash than it would first appear. Ow. >.<
Another adorable pic from Brevity, who got to have some fun with his poses with this one.
As may be gathered from the title, I'm actually a fan of Mahou Sentai Magiranger, rather than the American-adapted Power Rangers Mystic Force. Magiranger was really the first time I followed a sentai before the American show came around, so my first exposure to this setting was of a strong family standing together against the seemingly unlimited forces of darkness with no apparent allies, while slowly proving their courage and growing in strength and affection, and the forces of darkness constantly up the game, until at the end a strong and united family stands in the face of ultimate evil, and prevails through the power of their undying courage and their bonds of love. Mystic Force doesn't do enough with the material given, though it has some good moments and episodes. The rangers get very little actual character development, the only one who gets any real focus is Nick who is a TERRIBLE red ranger and leader and constantly steals the plot, the only characters who get any actual character growth are the supporting characters, the villains are kind of bland and poorly done, the magic constantly pulls stuff out of its ass rather than Magiranger's carefully structured and designed system, and arguably the greatest sin is that the power rangers themselves are peripheral characters to a story about these survivors of this epic war and how they're now waging it again. Again, while it has a few good moments and characters, they're not enough to save the show in my mind, which is a shame for me, because I did want it to be adapted well.
Honestly, if I was going to write Mystic Force, I'd have probably adapted Magiranger a bit stronger: five seemingly ordinary children chosen by five ancient wizards to be bestowed with a portion of their power to defend the world, who have to learn to use these ancient powers. And eventually it would be revealed that Zordon himself was one of these ancient wizards (see, tying it all together), and that being saturated with magic/morphing energy eventually transforms you into something more (the Legend form stuff from Magiranger), with a few of the ancient wizards (Magishine) joining the rangers directly and transforming using relics of their ancient powers. And keep courage as opposed to belief, the belief thing was stupid.
Anyway! That's enough rambling from this pup!
