Here's the story....
I've had Mr. Boofur for years. I'm manic depressant and refuse to take prescription drugs. Hate that shit. The things that keep me relatively sane are music and this wonderful bunny. I purchased him on a whim. I saw him in a big, open box with 100s more just like him. But this one in particular caught me eye. I picked him up and immediately felt a sense of calm. There was no question, he was coming home with me. That was 26 years ago. Easter 1988.
He's never left my side. When I'm home, he's with me. When I sleep, he's with me. When I travel, he's with me. His head always against my heart.
After such a long time of constant snuggling and sometimes, falling asleep with my head on his chest (he's uber soft, it's a pillow thing) he began losing fur, tearing at the seems and getting just plain ratty, I felt it time to have him refurbished.
I found a woman right out of NC who had a plushy repair hospital. Her turn around was 2 weeks. It took me awhile to get up the courage to send him away. 2 weeks without Mr. Boofur? FUCK. And, yeah, FUCK. 2 weeks of sleepless nights, tossing and turning.
Then there was the not knowing if he made it there. Those 5 days nearly killed me. Turned out, she was out of town. He had arrived and his box was among the other 50 or so that were sent to her. I was relieved. But, still, couldn't sleep.
Today at work I was thinking I would email her when I get home. I walked in the door and there was a box. Mr. Boofur was home. And, HOLY SHIT, He looks AMAZING! Above is the before and after photos of my wonderful bunny.
I'll sleep well tonight. ^^

Actually, the only total replacement piece was the white belly fur. The rest she cleaned, stitched and re-furred the original fabric he was made from. You can see it in his muzzle area. It's a pain staking long process. Basically poking new polyester fiber into the old mesh. Similar to needle point. She then added extra stuffing to the old and beefed him up. It's stunning what she accomplished.
Just so you know, it was expensive. Mr. Boofur cost me $100. But, he was worth it to me. Here's a link...

Hmmm, I may be contacting this person to repair my old teddy bear. I have a late 70's Fisher Price bear with a squeaker in his tummy. He originally had a bib but I cut it off when I was like 12 because "bibs are for babies" lol. The stuff you do as a kid. But I'd love to get him refurbished and the rest of the bib removed from the seams.
That's awesome! Obviously this service is something done with both skill and real craftsmanship as I can see from the results. They maintained the character very well...my fear would have been that he might come back looking like an entirely different bunny, but they reconstructed him very nicely. Congrats!
I still have issues of The Tai Pan Universe. That's where the story developed. Terry Smith developed tendonitis and couldn't draw lengthy comics anymore. I think the Havoc Inc story does pick up in one of those compilation books with stories, pin-ups and comics. I forget which one.
