For my children's book illustration class this semester I'm going to be illustrating a version of the Aesop's fable "the stag and his reflection"

If you're unfamiliar with the fable, basically it goes like this:

In the cool of the evening, a stag came to a clearing in the woods where there was a deep, still pool. Bending down, he caught sight of his own reflection in the cool water.
How strong and beautiful my antlers are," he thought, "But my legs-how thin and ugly they look. I'm embarrassed to be seen!"
As the stag looked away in shame, he heard hounds baying in the distance, and he knew that the hunters were approaching. He bounded towards the woods, but as he ducked beneath the trees, his antlers became ensnared in the low branches.
"These cursed antlers have made me easy prey for the hunters and their dogs," he thought in despair. But after much kicking and struggling, his strong legs finally helped him to break free of his trap and quickly carried him to safety.

So here we have the vain yet self-conscious as of yet unnamed stag. Gonna change some stuff in my story of course, have anthro characters and probably add a few other animals, change the hunters into a wolf etc. but this is the design I have so far.
