Never in my life have I been able to get as close to lions (without glass in the way) as I was at the Lion Habitat Ranch in Henderson, Nevada, which I visited on my recent Las Vegas trip. You could get about 2 feet away from the amazing cats, with only barbed wire fence in the way (quite a pain to shoot through!)
