After making some bracelets out of wooden scales ( http://www.furaffinity.net/view/12731046/ ), I also cut some large scales and made a couple necklaces!
These are extra exciting to me, because I had another choice for wood. Normally I use Baltic birch plywood, which is the brighter blonde wood with a very clear grain. But in 1/16 inch thick plywood (which is what I'm using here for the large scales) I also had some Okoume, which is a medium reddish tone, similar to mahogany, with more contrast in the grain. They're both finished with tung oil, which helps bring out the wood's character and give it some luster, and also helps waterproof it a bit.
I really want to make something big out of these. Maybe I'll make a dragon tail once I get through my commission queue.
