I realize that Bloodstone is not a cat, but from what I remember when I watched the series, there were people that treated their pokemon like pets and pokemon that were a bit impulsive or stubborn. Besides, with Bloodstone's claws blunted, it means the brothers will have quite a bit of time alone together. ;) Quite a useful plot detail.
