As I expressed before, one thing that bothers me about a growing fad is when people create a 'species', they are basically reusing one character design over and over to the point it is repetitive and boring. Not only that but in the adoptable/design selling fandom I've noticed people will create one design, and slap on a 'closed species label' without including more thought into the species as a whole.
I've absolutely nothing against people who sell 'species' adopts! I find them really cool at times, but sometimes people misuse this label I feel. They create a hybrid of some sort, such as a dog/deer (dog with antlers and hooves) and call it an 'original species'. While designs like this already exist (canine/deer hybrids are EXTREMELY common) and while I don't mind if you do do that and create a whole story for it, I guess it'd only bug me if that person was to get so defensive over this design that they grow unhappy with anything else they see of a similar design.
Adding food is also extremely popular? People will draw a dog with a fruit or a slice of pizza for a tail and slap on an 'original species' label to. Last I checked, a dog is a dog, adding food on top or some other gimmick doesn't make an original species. Cool gimmick? yes. Species? no.
Some people work incredible hard to create a completely new and unique 'species'. They put thought into their anatomy, their behavior, and everything. So when I see some wonderful unique species and then I see a fox with a fish for a tail or something I kinda just sigh.
I just wish people got the difference between a Character and a Design. A lot of times I see people buy a design and will love it to death and draw it, but in the art I've noticed it can lack character? I can't tell their personality or who they are as a creature other than 'this species is copyright ____" and that's all there is to it. All designs have potential to be a unique character if you put the effort into them.
You can have an original species, and you can have MAJOR variety. Different shapes, body types, heights, weights, you can even make up breeds. It doesn't have to be just a color change to make it a character!
TDLR: Don't abuse the word 'species'. And don't let a 'species' limit you to only redrawing one type of shape for that particular species.
And I'm not sure where the hell I'm going with this. I just thought it'd be fun to rant a little. Feel free to rebuttal in a /mature/ manner. I love discussion if it's handled civilly. Also for the record, my observation is heavily based on DEVIANTART not Furaffinity. I don't follow much adoptable/designers on here as I do on DA where I follow a couple of groups that upload daily. This is based off no one in particular either, it's all just gathered thoughts over time. I have no ill will towards anyone who does do any of these things :o and continue to do them if they make you happy. This is strictly my opinion~

Anyways, back to this picture, I want to make a cute little comic about Chu Chu, so I designed a few Kyuceans in my free time! (the Commando and Brennan ones were just a joke but maybe they'll get a cameo lol). I'll likely make more and add more to this so stay tuned! Kyuceans are really fun to design and it's a fun learning experience.
I want to get my designing abilities up to snuff, as I kinda fall back on habits VERY often. x.x it's hard not to reuse shapes man. But I think these are pretty successful for a first try (minus the Chu, Chu's Dad, and Mom who were drawn beforehand)
Donno when I'll write/draw this comic but soon hopefully!
Anyways that's all, enjoy!

These are all so adorable!
Also, I totally understand your rant. It can get a little annoying. I saw someone trying to make a unicorn/dragon hybrid a closed, original species a week or so ago, basically claiming just the hybrid as they didn't specify any specific features or traits or anything...I basically told them hey, I have this character that's a unicorn/dragon hybrid. Sorry if I took your species. -sarcastic shrug-

THANK YOU!
I never understood the popularity of "original species"
I guess maybe it's for the type of people who enjoy collecting things?
But still... ugh. >.>
I only sell designs. I don't sell a species label because I find it silly.
I wanted to make a dog/bear character but found out they are "copyrighted"
So I can't make my character. I have reasons for wanting those two animals as well. Being both my animal zodiacs in Chinese astrology and Native American astrology.
BUT NOO they are copyrighted. A hybrid of two real, existing animals. lol >.>

Ahhh! The bottom middle one! Eets so pudgy! *makes terrifying squee noises*
I once toyed with the idea of doing a couple adoptable things myself, but I find myself unable to really just do the "draw pose, make 18 variations with different hairstyle/markings" and I found the work going into the pictures...I may as well just draw normal commissions at that rate.
There are some very creative designs and species out there, but I do think some folks just see some folks who have original species doing well and go "oh! Thats the key to adoptable success! Closed species!" and try to hodge podge something together and do it themselves. Until you end up with folks who are saying how their goat-lions are original species do not steals.

These are just so amazing and I really wish people would put more thought into the uniqueness of the body type for each critter as you have in these characters here. Which by the way totally in love with the one in the middle and the one to the right of that one cant wait to see more about them or art of them))
I do how ever understand where the template adopt popularity can stem from. On a site called gaiaonline there was a community called breedables and you could adopt rp and breed pets there and they were all on templated linearts with minor to major edits but rarely editing on a major body type scale. Now this was done because you were getting fake gold for it and you didnt want to draw and template something new every time. I know gaia wasnt the only place to do this either wajas and neopets are also good examples of templated adopts. And I know a lot of fans of that stuff happen to be on da. It became popular enough that people started paying real money for them normal people who cant really draw their own characters or cant think them up very well on their own. I personally could not understand some of the money Ive seen dropped on such things. Two to three hundred bucks for an edited template that happened to have a rare mutation or something. I know why they can be fun but personally I like to spend my money one unique adopts and add a story to them. Like currently there is the one species I would like to adopt one from but Im refusing to just do it because I wished to speak with the creator and talk with them to find out more about it and create a fitting and detailed back story to it as well as have some relatives etc in the line to make it a more detailed and put together character. Since Ive noticed that if I dont do that the character normally gets put to the side as just something pretty and there is just no fun in that at all.
I also understand the species thing. Oh look I made shark cats now no one else can make them. No you can copy right something like that. Like your species is totally unique with more behind them then just a drawing. There is a big difference between some hybrids and a species.

That's a really interesting observation. I've never been into gaiaonline but yeah Neopets and all that jazz certainly promotes the use of it. I'm like that too! I rarely buy templates adopts unless I know I can get my creativity on it and edit it to something I like. xD I rarely adopt 'species' because I find it limiting (though there are species out there I've seen that are so awesome I wish I could get my hands on one but they wrack up to 50-80 plus dollars and I'm just dfsljdskldsaklsdal)
I'm glad you like the pretty middle boys xD ones just a kyucean version of my super hero brennan but I really like him too!

Yep thats really where all the template adopts came from I think. Yeah the cost is the down side to the non templated adopts/ species
He looked sorta super heroish XD and I really do mean I can wait to learn more about each one. You should make personal profiles for each of them telling us a little about them =D

Ah! This reminds me of the time I ran into this "closed species" and it was just, a dog with flowers on it, and they're selling them as custom adops. I feel as if people are lacking creativity today, overused templates just for a adopt to make a quick buck and claiming that said character as a "species" of your own when really it isn't and or cant be a species. So in a nutshell I can understand you with the "adoptable" topic or ranting.
And onto the main topic,
I rEALLY love the little guy on the bottom row, yeah! The guy in the middle in that row! like hes a UBER CUTIE, the rest are really cute/rad as well when it comes to designs!

Bless you Chu for your words of wisdom on "orginul speshes du not stel pls".
Just. Thank you.
As an adoptable maker myself, I make them because I just like throwing random colors and patterns on something.
Not because they're my own. Hell, I give away all my stuff anyway! lol
And it's so common now to see when people literally just combine two animals, common I might add, and slap on a trademark.
I welcome the day that someone else makes a pandasaurus.
That's freaking cool, come on! A red panda and a dinosaur? GAH! SOMEONE MAKE ONE SO I CAN HAVE A BUDDY! lol
But anyway, I LOVE THESE!
That big, dark guy in the corner is sooo handsome! ;o;
