Hm, I will propose an experiment for you :)
Take a green apple and take it outside when the sun is setting and everything is mostly red, then take a photo of it. Then take it to paint and pick the color of the apple. The color won't be green, I assure you :)
About the expression - he in the middle of explaining something. How does he speak usually which makes him look 'like him'? Coz I don't know, why expression here makes him different dragon ^^

For sure. I think it's not that easy to make Fhryx look distinct and catch his personality, without making him look like "a random green dragon". The change in color doesnt help much, I have to imagine. I just dont see many similarities between him in this picture and his usual depiction in other works of art. I wished I could lay my paw on the exact reason to be a better help D :
