A write up of a species Iggi and I created, the huzavods! You will notice it looks like it came out of a D&D 3.5 book because I was writing it to be used in a d20 system game~

1. It's not a mouth. It's an ovipositor, a thing that lays the eggs, if anything, this would be unbirthing, not eating.
2. Since they are usually the same size as their host species, that would mean that the tip of the tail would be proportional and thus make this act difficult for 'normal sized' people.
3. The tip is not meant to stretch larger than the eggs, thus making it all quite impossible.

They tend to hunt females, or which ever gender the host species that normally carry the young. For example, if there was a seahorse like species, they would hunt for the males. As this would make it more likely the new eggs hatch and live birth safely, as stomachs are not a very safe place for eggs.
The eggs usually grow in host for two months, the eggs have a great tendency to grow to a size that is just smaller than what the host's normal offspring would be.
The eggs do trigger hormonal change in the host, in most cases, causing the host to go through an accelerated version of their normal pregnancy stages. Other effects are minimal as it ensures the best chance for the eggs.
