She wanted the design elements to be Maori inspired. I really fell in love with some of the ornate spears I found in my brief research.
I also invented a few things for this design, including the necklace of claws taken from fallen enemies, possibly passed down through her family. The feathers in her hair have their own significance, the one with the red comes from her mother and the smaller one is from her first "adult" molt.
